A Busy Week, And A New Venture

It’s been a busy week here at Ubiwar Towers. I was asked to write two op-eds this week, so we have China’s Cyberwar Goes Beyond Google for The Guardian (13 Jan), and Skulduggery in Cyberspace for Index on Censorship (14 Jan), both triggered by the Google/China kerfuffle that’s been exercising us all the last few days.

There was non-Google news too and I’ve provided comment for two other stories: UK.gov Moves to Block Hamas Kids Site, The Register (14 Jan), and Iran Warns Opposition That E-Mail, Texts Monitored, Bloomberg.com (15 Jan).

The big personal news this week was that David Betz and colleagues have asked me to join the Kings of War crew. This is a big step up in terms of exposure and readership, so I was chuffed to be asked. KoW is undergoing some rebranding and an expanded set of contributors, so check out the new site and point your RSS readers to the new feed. I look forward to being part of a blogging project I consider essential reading, and which is creeping up the Technorati Top 100 World Politics blog rankings. More on KoW as it happens. In the meantime, Pat Porter has left KoW and set up at The Offshore Balancer, ‘a blog about strategy’, which I hope gets the readership Pat deserves.

This all means that KoW will be my main outlet from now on. I’ll continue to write on terrorism for FREErad!cals, and on various topics for Current Intelligence (which also has a new contributor, Brad Evans). Ubiwar will definitely remain open for business and now that things have shaken down a bit, I’ll probably end up posting here more rather than less, even if the headline pieces are often elsewhere.

So, 2010′s shaping up to be a big year in many ways. Come on in …
