Cybernetics and the World Laboratory

Brian Holmes on Filming the World Laboratory, ostensibly a review of Lutz Dammbeck’s film Das Netz (2003). This is a quick post before I get on a plane, so I’ll leave it to the reader to explore this long essay on cybernetics, MK-ULTRA, Stewart Brand, Norbert Wiener, the Unabomber, Thomas P. Barnett, Gödel, and gaps in the techno-scientific world system.

There’s a slightly paranoid whiff about it, hardly surprising given the Cold War air of the piece, but if you’ve got half-hour or so to spare, I recommend this as a well-written and thought-provoking read.
