Back in Black, I Hit the Sack

Posted in Uncategorized by Tim Stevens on August 12th, 2008

Greetings all. A quick note to say, that for someone who claims to have some kind of handle on technology, I forgot to sort out some USB-related Great Firewall-circumventing action, and managed to lose my camera too. Shame - there were some wicked snaps of Chinese action on there. Still, I met a guy who lost his journal, so it’s not so bad. Thanks for your comments and messages while I was away - I’ll get to them all in the next couple of days.

It turns out that nothing significant has happened during my self-imposed media blackout. Rex is getting laid on Big Brother, Britney’s looking grrreat, Andie Macdowell’s wrinkles are still not showing thanks to L’Oréal, Iraqistan’s fucked and over there. In addition, apparently another filthy and distressing little war started while Putin was away in Beijing, flexing both for national pride and for next season’s calendar.

Having experienced firsthand an outbreak of sports experts at the first blast of Chinese gunpowder on 08.08.08, I’m sure the emerging horror of Georgia/South Ossetia will birth a slew of similar punditry. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.

I’ll suspend further cynicism until the responsible double-reverse jetlag wears off. Expect some Sino-inflected dilettantism in due course, but until then, I’m crashing out to a BBC4 documentary on hagiography of Patrick Leigh Fermor.

[It wasn't me]
